Tuition

Since the USU graduate tuition is decided by the Utah legislature each March, all information below is only an estimation based on last year’s costs. The values in the table below include tuition, fees, and Huntsman School of Business differential tuition.

Estimated MDATA Tuition and Fees for AY 2023-24

The information below regarding Tuition and Fees are estimates only.  Actual program cost will vary based on specialization selected, number of credits completed, and courses selected.  Some courses in the program have additional Differential Tuition Fees associated with them. Once a program of study has been developed, program staff can prepare more detailed tuition and fee numbers.

In-state Tuition and Fees

Out-of-state Tuition and Fees

Out-of-state students can expect to pay an additional $20,000 to $27,000 on top of the estimated in-state Tuition and Fees outlined in the table above.

Students from these states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) qualify for resident tuition through the West Regional Graduate Program - see below.

Financial Aid

For qualified on-campus full-time students, financial aid assistance is offered through the U.S. Government and the USU Financial Aid Office. To qualify for federal student loans and financial aid packages, students must submit a FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students are encouraged to apply for government aid after they are admitted to the MDATA program.

Please be aware that graduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits each semester in order to qualify for a student loan.

CGO Graduate Research Fellowships*

CGO Graduate Research Fellowships are awarded through a competitive application process. Selected fellows work on assigned research projects and participate in extra-curricular training. CGO fellows also have the opportunity to present their research at conferences and attend other events featuring renowned scholars. CGO Graduate Research Fellows receive full tuition (including differential tuition) funding toward the required courses for their graduate program. The application for the fellowship can be found on the CGO's website.

*Only MDATA student completing the Economics and Finance Specialization are eligible to awarded CGO Graduate Research Fellowship. 

Graduate Non-resident Tuition for Excellence Waiver

The Non-Resident Tuition Waiver for Excellence is a one-year waiver of the non-resident portion of graduate tuition.

A limited number of students may be eligible for the non-resident tuition waiver whose GPA and other qualifications are above the average for the Huntsman School. Eligibility of request is evaluated by the department's graduate committee.


Waiver Information

Alumni Legacy Nonresident Waiver

Children or grandchildren of USU Alumni can attend Utah State with the nonresident portion of tuition waived Follow your parents' footsteps and become an Aggie. To qualify for the Alumni Legacy Nonresident Waiver, a future Aggie must:

  • Be admitted.
  • Have at least one parent who earned an associate degree or higher from Utah State University.
  • Enroll at USU as a first-time student.

Western Regional Graduate Program

This program allows residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to pay resident tuition for approved programs. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education provides a list of participating USU graduate programs. This waiver may be applied every semester that a student is enrolled in an eligible program, and students can apply for this waiver by completing a WRGP application for non-resident tuition.
