USU's Fiefia traveling to D.C. to urge action against loan hike

The Utah State University student body president has signed a petition along with more than 100 other student presidents across the country and will travel to Washington, D.C., to urge lawmakers to avoid the looming hike in student loan interest rates.
At issue is the fact that interest rates on subsidized Stafford student loans are set to double July 1 from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent.
Douglas Fiefia, a senior who is also president of the Utah Student Association — a group that represents all of Utah's 11 colleges on a state level — spoke about the issue following a USU Board of Trustees meeting on Friday.
