Ron K. Labrum is president and chief executive officer of Fenwal, Inc., a global leader in products and technologies that support and improve blood collection, processing and transfusion medicine.
Mr. Labrum brings extensive leadership experience to Fenwal, which serves customers on six continents. He joined Fenwal in 2007 when the company was formed through a spin-off from Baxter International. His previous role was chairman and chief executive officer of Cardinal Health’s $70-billion Healthcare Supply Chain Services segment.
Mr. Labrum has more than 25 years of experience in the medical device and distribution industry with Fortune 100 leaders including Cardinal Health, Allegiance Corporation, Baxter International and American Hospital Supply Corporation.
He began his career with American Hospital Supply selling scientific equipment and supplies to U.S. laboratories. After holding positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing and operations, Mr. Labrum was named vice president of corporate sales and marketing at Baxter in 1991, which had acquired American in 1985.
In 1996, Allegiance Corporation spun off from Baxter as an independent public company and Mr. Labrum joined its senior leadership team. Over the next two years, Allegiance shares were among the fastest-growing stocks on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2000, Mr. Labrum was named president of Allegiance and an executive vice president of Cardinal Health, its new parent company. He was promoted to chairman and chief executive officer of Integrated Provider Solutions and Cardinal Health International in 2004. The following year, he was named chairman and chief executive officer of the company’s Healthcare Supply Chain Services segment.
Mr. Labrum serves on the board of trustees for the National Blood Foundation. He is a director of BCU, an Illinois-based national credit union, and also serves on the executive board of the Northeast Illinois Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Utah State University.
Fenwal, Inc., became an independent company in 2007, but its roots go back to 1949 with the founding of Fenwal Laboratories. Fenwal developed the first flexible, disposable container for blood collection, eliminating complications associated with glass containers and allowing blood to be separated into therapeutic components. Today, the company’s products and advanced collection and separation technologies are used throughout the world to help ensure a safe and available supply of lifesaving blood and blood products.
