FINANCIAL EXPERTS TO SPEAK AT USU ON THE COUNTRY'S CHANGING ECONOMIC CONDITIONS
LOGAN – Financial experts visiting Utah State University are expected to talk about the country's changing economy and the impact it is having on banking at the 38th Annual Financial Services and Banking Seminar Thursday, Jan. 24.
"The seminar will give local professionals a chance to network with a wide range of business innovators and the opportunity to earn credits to help meet their professional education and certification requirements," said Curt Wheeler, program administrator of USU's Partners in Business.
The Partners in Business program, which is part of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, began in 1970 with the Financial Service and Banking Seminar and it has remained the cornerstone of its seminar series, Wheeler said.
This seminar includes six keynote addresses and will feature G. Edward Leary, commissioner of the Utah Department of Financial Institutions, and Scott Anderson, president and CEO of Zions First National Bank. Leary has been with the Utah Department of Financial Institutions since 1977 and was appointed commissioner in 1992. He will be speaking on how banking has changed in todayıs world and how businesses can adapt to those changes.
Anderson started at Zions Bank as executive vice president of retail banking and assumed his position as president and CEO in 1998. He will talk about how businesses can better work with "the employee of the 21st century."
Financial specialists from Thredgold Economic Associates, Mountain America Federal Credit Union, Utah State University and Wells Fargo will also be speaking at the seminar.
Partners in Business is a non-profit organization that is managed by students under the direction of Robert Miller, the executive director of The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence. The program began as a way to bridge the gap between business students and their future employers.
