Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Announces Results of Employer Survey

The Jon M. Huntsman School of Business recently finished a comprehensive survey of employers who hired COB graduates from 2004 to 2006. The employers either returned the completed survey through the mail or filled out an instrument on the college’s website.

Employers were asked to describe their business and to tell us if they are a local, statewide, regional, national or international firm. They were also asked to identify the types of majors their company recruits. A number of open-ended questions at the end of the survey asked for their opinions about the strengths and weaknesses of Jon M. Huntsman School of Business programs.

Employers were asked to rate our graduates on 25 core competencies, skills and abilities and to identify how important those abilities were to their organization. One of the survey’s major findings is that employers view Jon M. Huntsman School of Business students to be very honest and ethical. Employers view integrity as very important and gave the college top marks in this area. (4.62 on a 5 point scale). The respondents also ranked students very high on measures such as work ethic, computer skills, self-confidence, team work and decision-making abilities. The survey results indicate that employers are more concerned with students’ character and attitudes than they are with their technical preparation. Several respondents complemented the accounting program’s stringency.

The Jon M. Huntsman School of Business is very proud of the continued success of its graduates and in its ability to produce well-educated, capable and ethical employees for companies in Utah and throughout the United States. The full text of the report can be found here.
