USU Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Seminar to Feature Accounting Experts
LOGAN – Two accounting experts will give keynote addresses at a Utah State University Jon M. Huntsman School of Business seminar expected to draw accountants from across the Intermountain West Thursday, Oct. 25.
The student-led Partners in Business Accounting Seminar, in its 31st year, also offers a one-day training session that helps fulfill CPE credit requirements.
"Attendees will receive updates on changes in financial accounting, tax and technology," said Shelly Owen, student coordinator for the event. "Presenters will address how these changes will affect companies and ways they can begin adopting them into their company practices."
The conference, includes four keynote speakers and two break-out sessions. This year's seminar features Robert Lipe from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Hank Gutman from KPMG, a "Big Four" accounting firm.
Lipe serves as a research fellow for FASB and is a professor of accounting at the University of Oklahoma. He will give an update on current FASB projects. FASB is responsible for the establishment of accounting and reporting standards, also known as generally accepted accounting principles. It oversees the rules and regulations for the accounting profession, including publicly traded and privately held companies and not-for-profit organizations.
Gutman is the principal-in-charge for the Federal Tax Legislative and Regulatory Services group at Washington National Tax. Gutman will give a summary of the federal tax legislative process and a review of enacted and pending federal tax legislation.
Accounting experts from Wells Fargo, Squire & Co., Deloitte and the School of Accountancy at USU will be speaking at the seminar as well.
Partners in Business is a non-profit organization managed entirely by students under the direction of Robert Miller, executive director of The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence. The program began in 1970 as a way to bridge the gap between business students and their future employers.
Tickets are still available for the one-day seminar. Register online at www.partnersusu.org or by phoning (800) 472-9965.
