Deloitte CEO Discusses Seizing Opportunities
The last Dean’s Convocation speaker for Fall 2005 semester was James Quigley, the CEO of Deloitte and Touche. Quigley advised the assembled students and faculty to maintain their integrity, work hard, and take advantage of life’s opportunities. He reflected on his personal journey and the opportunities he has seized throughout his lengthy career. Quigley also commented on the business community’s need to maintain high ethical standards. He remarked that at Deloitte the company’s values guide the actions of every employee.
Quigley began his career with Deloitte as an accountant in the Salt Lake City Office. Over the last 30 years he amassed a distinguished record of service to major clients in a wide range of industries. He was appointed CEO of the leading professional services accounting firm in June of 2003. Quigley was recently honored by Accounting Today for the third straight year as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting. He is a champion of collaborative stakeholder efforts during a time he describes as "The New Age of Accountability."
Quigley graduated from Utah State’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was also awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts.
