Steven Paul Nielsen – B.S., Accounting, 1984; M.S.S., Social Science, 1991

Quad-City Times - March 17, 2008 The Library Board of Trustees chose Steven Nielsen of Mapleton, Utah, to lead the library, which has been recognized as being in the top 3 percent of libraries nationwide by Hennen's American Public Library Ratings. Nielsen, who currently works as executive senior vice president of product development for Alpha Bay of St. Lake City, replaces Faye Clow, who retired Jan. 4 after 30 years in Bettendorf. In his position with Alpha Bay, a software company, he was responsible for product design and management and engineering resources. He holds bachelor's and master of public administration degrees from Utah State University. "I am very excited to become part of the Bettendorf Public Library Information Center," he said in an announcement printed in Pages, the library's newsletter. "I hope to use my knowledge and experiences to continue the great programs and community services currently available." Nielsen and his family are in the process of moving to Bettendorf, where he will begin work April 7. He will earn $80,000 per year, Human Resources Director Kathleen Eisbrener said. She said four candidates received in-person interviews for the position and that there were no internal candidates.
