Layton, UT, SLCC Global Link-December 4, 2006 SLCC Professor Inspires Students. Marketing Professor, Curtis Youngman is in love with the business end of things. He has enjoyed his career as a teacher for the past 32 years, 29 of which have been spent teaching students at SLCC. Currently he is teaching courses in Marketing, Product Development, Business to Business, Customer Service, and Principles and Promotions of Marketing.
"Curtis shows that he truly cares about students learning in his classes," said SLCC student Nico Suavo. "He holds each student accountable for their actions, and expects them to think and learn about their own educational career goals. He is professional, yet develops personal relationships with his student."
Several students feel that Curtis is more than just the ordinary professor.
"I love Curtis’s enthusiasm for the topics he teaches in class, and appreciate his dedication to the art of teaching. He is an outstanding educator," said SLCC student Donna Mirablile.
Professor Youngman attended Weber State University where he received his Associates Degree. He then transferred to Utah State University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Distributive Education, and a Masters Degree in Education of Marketing.
In addition to teaching courses at SLCC, Youngman is currently serving as a DEX (Delta Epsilon Chi) advisor for the state of Utah, and is on the Board of Directors for DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America). DECA is a business-marketing club that strives to educate its members about business and marketing strategies and decisions.
As an educator, Youngman believes it is very important to get involved in the lives of his students. On Oct. 27 and 28, Professor Youngman and several students from SLCC attended the Fall Leadership Conference held in Park City. Additionally, on Nov. 9, 2006, Youngman and 18 other students from various universities in Utah flew to Manhattan, New York to attend a National Leadership Training session.
"I love the personal interaction with each of the students," Youngman said. "I get the opportunity to see them progress, prepare, and accomplish their career goals. It’s exciting to see the light turn on. This is the moment when students are able to grasp a concept and see how it is applied in life."
