Herald Journal -- November 11, 2012
USU conference planners Lisa Anderson and Joy Brisighella are now among a select group of meeting professionals distinguished by the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation. Anderson and Brisighella received official notification this year that they have been approved for certification by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) on recommendation of the CMP Board. Anderson, assistant director at the University Inn & Conference Center, has been with the organization for 21 years. Brisighella, a program coordinator specializing in professional development and education conferences and events, has been a Conference Coordinator at USU since 2008 and was the director of marketing and special events for the George S. Eccles Ice Center in Logan. The event management team at the University Inn & Conference Center plans and manages events for groups of all sizes onsite at USU campus facilities and also travels to administrate offsite events at locations throughout the United States. Anderson and Brisighella are the department’s first CMPs and are two of Utah’s three CMPs north of Salt Lake City. Anderson and Brisighella sat for the comprehensive CMP examination in San Diego. This distinguished credential, recognized throughout the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry, demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of meeting management as well as a commitment to the profession. Eligibility to take the CMP examination is based on an extensive review of professional qualifications — candidates must have at least three years of employment in the meetings industry, and demonstrate responsibility. Each applicant must have completed 25 hours of continuing education.
