A former general authority for the LDS Church is being appointed to the Utah Transit
Authority boar d. Gov. Gary Herbert says he is placing H. David Burton on the 15-member board that oversees
the state’s bus, light rail and commuter rail operations. Burton is the former presiding bishop for The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was released last month from the church calling after more than 16 years
in the position. During his tenure with the church, Burton oversaw the construction of the church $1.5 billion
City Creek development in downtown Salt Lake City. The retail portion of the project opened in March. Burton
has also worked for Kennecott Utah Copper and the Utah Tax Commission.
