Biography

Sheila Lai graduated with a Ph.D. in economics from Utah State University in December 2008 after receiving her BA in finance from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. During her graduate studies at USU, Dr. Lai received the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award (2005) and the Graduate Student Senate Stipend Enhancement Award (2006). She was also the first place winner of the Tenth Intermountain Paper and Poster Symposium in 2007. Prior to joining USU, Dr. Lai was an investment analyst at Deseret Mutual, a private pension fund company located in Salt Lake City with over $5 billion assets under management. Her major responsibilities at Deseret Mutual included macroeconomic research, strategic and tactical asset allocation and manager search oversight. She is a CFA Charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute, CFA Society of Salt Lake and CFA China.
