Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

From the Department Head

Credentials matter; they signal to employers a level of maturity, commitment, and technical skills that will differentiate you from the crowd. From my personal experience, becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) was a great career move. With my training in economics, a CPA certificate and license created additional and rewarding opportunities early in my career.

For financial professionals, the CFA (i.e., Chartered Financial Analyst) is the premier credential. Further, the principles espoused by the CFA Institute, (i.e., analytical rigor, ethics, and global vision) are entirely consistent with the core building blocks of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business and the Department of Economics and Finance.

Our department is committed to providing the necessary background to enable our undergraduates to successfully pass the level 1 CFA exam. We have carefully integrated our curriculum with CFA topics. Further, as a result of our resident CFA, Drew Dahl, we are able to provide financial support for students who want to sit for the level 1 exam while a student at Utah State University.

We encourage our students, both economics and finance students, to consider pursuing the CFA credential. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Drew Dahl, Paul Fjeldsted, or Austin Kwag.
