Student Organizations and Clubs

Involvement in student clubs provides excellent out–of–class preparation for your professional career. Taking an active part in clubs is the perfect way to set you apart from other job candidates. It applies material learned in school, gets you involved socially with peers, becomes a powerful networking device, and enhances your enjoyment of your academic experience through service and leadership roles.

Business Ambassadors

Business Ambassadors are the student representatives of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business . Each Year 12–13 Business Ambassadors are selected. We assist the dean of the college with hosting convocations, breakfasts, talegate parties and other events that alumni and other prominent business people attend.

We also help with recruiting students to the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business . We go with the USU Ambassadors to community colleges and other two–year institutions to recruit transfer students and we work with campus advisors to recruit undeclared students.

Our main duty as Business Ambassadors is to make all people that visit the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business feel welcome by giving campus tours and engaging them in fun and interesting conversation.

Business Council

The Business Council consists of 12 Jon M. Huntsman School of Business students from various business majors. Our main objective is to listen to students and take action to implement their ideas in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business .

The Business Council meets weekly. We discuss feedback we receive from students via the student idea box in the George S. Eccles Business Building. In addition, a representative from the council meets with college administators once a month to make the faculty aware of student opinions and concerns.


Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society

The Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society was founded in 1913 to recognize superior scholarship in business. It is the highest international recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive. The USU chapter was established in 1975.

Membership is by invitation only and is limited to the top 20 percent of business graduate students, the top 10 percent of seniors with business majors, and the top 7 percent of juniors with business majors. Undergraduate candidates must have completed at least 30 credits of study at Utah State University. Graduate candidates must have completed at least 18 credits of study at Utah State University.


American Marketing Association (AMA)

The USU Marketing Club is made up of two national organizations – the American Marketing Association and DEX. Student can join either or both organizations. This club is for students that are interested in putting the marketing concepts they have learned in class or through experience into practice. The clubs meet every other week for one hour and have two or three marketing projects on which individuals can work. Such work offers additional marketing experience to students and can enhance a resume come graduation time.

Networking opportunities abound because the clubs invite marketing speakers during the school year, hold socials, and have fun times with interesting people.

Also, by becoming a member of the National American Marketing Association you are demonstrating your interest in the field and will make connections with other members of the AMA.

The USU Jon M. Huntsman School of Business student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has joined forces with the Special Interest Group in E-commerce (SIGecom). This alliance enables MIS majors to begin professional networking and career-enhancing activities. An important event of this active organization is the MIS seminar and banquet held during spring semester.

SIGecom encourages research and acquiring first-hand experience with advanced applications relating to electronic commerce and the sharing of new ideas and experiences. We are also dedicated to the advancement of electronic commerce, principles, and practice. We are the leading computer-centered professional organization. SIGecom seeks to promote the informed development of commerce automation technology. We employ the best available engineering methods and economic methods.


Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi, the national honorary accounting fraternity, provides professional accounting and service experiences for accounting students throughout their academic program. Utah State University’s Delta Omega Chapter is one of the top chapters in the nation, having received the Superior Chapter award each year since its inception in 1977 the longest running Superior Chapter streak in the country! Beta Alpha Psi’s primary focus is on preparing students for careers in public accounting.


BusinessWorld Club

This club will offer a forum, as well as a organized schedule, to discuss articles/current world events in business publications, such as BusinessWeek and The Economist. As a pioneer in the emerging field of personal financial planning, USU's School of Accountancy has sponsored FPSA to serve the needs of students interested in this growing and exciting discipline. This is the first student organization of its type at any university in the nation. FPSA provides an educational opportunity to learn the intricacies and applications of complimentary professions.

Because good grades are becoming more common, job applicants need something extra to set them apart. The Utah State University Finance Club is a place for USU students to learn how to apply their skills and knowledge and to enhance their resume through participation and leadership opportunities.

Club members have an excellent opportunity to manage a $50,000 portfolio donated by the investment firm D.A. Davidson. Half of any money the club makes over $50,000 is returned to the club and used for scholarships.

Club members are also able to network with business professionals who speak at club meetings. Members of the Finance Club will find their experience in the Finance Club just as valuable as any class they take at Utah State University.

USU also has an award–winning student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. Our student chapter of IMA provides professional experiences in the area of management accounting. USU’s IMA chapter has been awarded the Gold Certificate of Excellence each year since 1995. This organization is primarily for students interested in careers outside public accounting, such as in industry, not–for–profit organizations, governmental organizations, and business entrepreneurship.


Master of Business Administration Association (MBAA)

The Master of Business Administration Association (MBAA) serves students enrolled in the Utah State University MBA program.

We encourage and host networking activities designed to help MBA students at USU find employment. Members help each other by refining resumes, practicing interviews, and developing other job-closing skills.

We assist the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business by working with MBA alumni to promote and strengthen our MBA program.

Society for Human Resource and Management (SHRM)

The 44–year old Society for Human Resource Management is a worldwide association of human resource professionals with more than 42,000 members nationally. The Utah State University student chapter is one of more than 430 chapters in the United States. It is the student’s gateway to the world of human resource management. Students network with practicing human resource managers and engage in a variety of career enhancing opportunities. The USU student chapter of SHRM was recognized as a national top ten chapter for the 2005–2006 school year. Student members receive nine issues of HRMagazine and HRNews together with other informational publications for the annual rate of $35 per year. Membership is open to any full–time student interested in personnel and human resource management or any of the functions of HRM.
