Why choose a degree in operations management?
Operations management involves planning, directing, controlling, and improving the activities related to providing goods and services. The operations manager is responsible for assuring that customer expectations are met, and even exceeded, with regard to quality, delivery, and price. To execute their responsibilities, operations managers must understand how to convert customer demand into specific material, equipment, and labor resources. In addition, they must work with and develop good suppliers, customer relationships, and internal work activities.
What types of jobs are available to those with a degree in operations management?
An operations management degree will lead to careers related to supply chain management, operations planning and scheduling, project management, manufacturing, merchandising, service institutions, trasportation, quality management and consulting.

- Gain experience through part-time and summer jobs or internships is vital.
- Develop these skills through courses and work experience.
- Develop information technology, analytical, and quantitative skills by participating in students organizations.
- Increase decision-making ability.
- Learn to work well in a team and to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Develop and utilize a personal network of contacts. Once in a position, find a mentor.
