Data–Based Decisions (Continuous Improvement)

The Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Executive Committee meets on a weekly basis to coordinate the activities of the college. When survey data is received, it is summarized in the Dean’s Office and presented in this meeting. Department heads also receive copies of survey results for their departments.

Based on outcomes data, the dean will assign one or more faculty or staff to address any discrepancies between our mission and goals and any results in the surveys that are below our standards. For example, teaching evaluation data is reviewed each semester. If a faculty member receives a 4.2 or lower on their overall effectiveness rating, the senior associate dean notifies the respective department head in writing and a teaching improvement plan is drafted by the faculty member and his or her department head. The quality of our teaching is continuously monitored. If it appears that a professor needs additional support, classroom visits will be made by senior faculty whose observations are used to assist the department head in working with the faculty member.

A long–term example of our responding to survey items is the newly remodeled Career and Education Opportunities Center (CEO Center). Over the past three years the director of this advising center has done an exceptional job consolidating advising services for students; resulting in a significant improvement in student satisfaction with advising.

To keep everyone involved in the improvement process of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business , an email is distributed to all faculty and staff after each executive meeting. The college also actively solicits feedback from its National Advisory Board. The School of Accountancy and the Management Information Systems Department also work closely with their advisory councils to review outcomes data and incorporate suggestions into the decision–making processes.
