Recruiters and Partners
The School of Accountancy (SOA) at Utah State University takes care to establish and promote excellent relationships with local and national businesses that lead to a variety of opportunities throughout the year for accounting students to network and mingle with professionals, who may eventually be recruiting them.
Recruiters, alumni and companies are encouraged to get involved with students at Utah State University in a variety of ways. Opportunities for students and professionals to interact include various professional meetings and speakers, classroom guest lecturers and professors-for-a-day, banquets, mock interviews, the Get-acquainted Breakfast, School of Accountancy start-up meeting, Meet the Firms & Industry Night, Financial Careers Night, the Intermountain Accounting Seminar and a variety of other club and recruiting events, in addition to recruiting interviews with participating firms via Career Services.
You are invited to participate in any of the activities below. Those interested in more information may phone Mary Ann Clark, assistant to the department head, at 435.797.2330 for more information.
Partner With Student Organizations in the School of Accountancy
Student organizations plan seminars, panel discussions, recruiting events, and conferences for their members throughout the year and are eager for your involvement. The SOA sponsors three nationally award-winning student organizations: Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and Financial Planning Student Association (FPSA).
Participate in Meet the Firms & Industry Night and Financial Careers Night
The annual "Meet the Firms & Industry Night" is an opportunity for students to meet with accounting professionals, as well as to learn more about the various career tracks they may pursue in the accounting profession. This SOA-sponsored September event attracts at least 100 professionals representing all of the national accounting firms, many regional and local firms, governmental agencies, and private corporations.
Financial Careers Night had its recent debut Dr. Vance Grange of the SOA recognized that many of his students in the financial planning program and other finance students in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State have different career goals than those of the typical accounting student.
At both events, professionals set up booths at which students can stop and learn about opportunities for careers at the respective companies. In addition to providing networking and educational opportunities for students, these activities also provide professionals the opportunity to meet outstanding students from Utah State University.
Participate in Career Day
One day each fall, accounting majors can take part in Career Day and spend the morning with a participating public accounting firm of their choice. Students are able to examine the daily life and working environment of a CPA through tours, presentations, and shadowing experiences. At the conclusion of the morning, the student and professional participants gather at a central location for lunch and a keynote speech. Salt Lake City and Provo/Orem area firms (including the Big Four), as well as local firms participate in this event.
Offer Year-Round Internships
A student who has had a productive summer internship can serve as your company's greatest promoter to fellow students. Recruiting for summer internships begins in January and continues throughout the spring semester. The typical internship is structured as a three-month independent project or as a series of short-term assignments. We also place many students in internships throughout the school year. For more information please contact Paige Geslin, internship coordinator, at 435.797.8313 or via email at paige.geslin@usu.edu.
