iFrogz factor, SLC-based company credits local acquisition for expanded offerings. ZAGG, the Salt Lake
City based mobile technology company that acquired the Logan-based iFrogz last year, has announced its first
quarter earnings of 2012, totaling $55.5 million — an all-time record. The company announced its first quarter
earnings in a news release Monday, stating that consolidated revenue increased 106 percent to $55.5 million
from $27 million in the same quarter last year. Of that revenue, 10 percent — or $15 million — was made
through ZAGG.com and www.iFrogz.com . About 83 percent of revenue came through indirect channels, 6
percent through the company’s mall cart and kiosk programs and 1 percent through shipping and handling.
Gross profit through the first quarter was $26.9 million. The profit is “attributed to the increased demand of
smartphones and tablets, and our positioning in the marketplace with great products that customers want,” said
Robert Pedersen II, CEO of ZAGG, in an interview on Tuesday. The Logan-based iFrogz designs,
manufactures and distributes protective cases, headphones and earbuds, and other accessories for smartphones,
tablets and mobile devices under the iFrogz and EarPollution trademarked brands. Though ZAGG acquired
the company for $105 million last June, iFrogz still maintains an office in Logan, but it’s called the ZAGGLogan office, Pedersen said. “We are well-integrated and have incorporated the iFrogz brand. It has enabled
us to meet various channels of distribution, as well as new customers that are more lifestyle driven; that’s
usually a younger, more price-conscience consumer base,” Pedersen said. “It’s our value brand. Since the
acquisition, we are seeing a tremendous level of employee unity ... which is translating into improved sales,
operational and financial performance of our business.” Pedersen said there has been an increased demand in
mobile device accessories, and there will be “a $60 billion industry in the next three years.” “iFrogz has
helped us expand out competition by expanding our offerings ,” he said. ZAGG recently completed a
successful “cross marketing effort” with the mega retail store chain Target, and introduced several products
into Target. “(ZAGG, Inc. and iFrogz) are really working closely together on product designs as a team,”
Pedersen said. “There’s a lot of synergy that can take place now.”
